5 Mental Toughness Tips You Can Implement Now from Ultra Marathon Runner Mark Robbins

Imagine being only 1/4 of the way through on your first 100 mile ultra-marathon and you start to notice blisters forming on your feet.

The skin is starting to chafe, burn and rub away, every step starts to become more painful.

What do you do for the next 20+ hours and 75 miles?

It's going to get a lot worse, but will you quit and save it for another day?

Or will you tap into your mindset and mental toughness reserves to make it through?

I had the opportunity to interview ultra-runner Mark Robbins about his mindset and how he gets through events that can:

- Last 30 hours or more, through the night with no sleep.

- Elevation gains and losses that are equal to climbing/descending Mount Everest.

- Can be in brutal weather with rain, mud and slippery terrain.

We talk about mental toughness, perseverance, grit and more; and he gives 5 tips that he uses in the hardest conditions but can be applied in business, sales, in your personal life or in sports when things get REALLY...

Myths of the hustle and grind culture

Myths of Hustle and Grind culture:

Busy-ness is the same as productivity
Time is money
I have to work hard to succeed
If it's urgent I need to act all frantic
I don't have enough time

What is Busy-ness? It's a feeling of stress, overwhelm, lack of time, rushing around, all associated with trying to GSD.

The crazy thing is you can still feel Busy-ness even when you aren't GSD.

And GSD can be done more effectively without Busy-ness.

If you want to always be stressed out running full speed on the hamster wheel, missing out on life, always chasing, count me out H&G culture.

It's time to break through some of the myths of the hustle and grind culture and take back your own life before you spend the entire time on the dopamine treadmill and miss out on all the beauty in life.

Check out me and Bobby Dysart on the Student of Intention Podcast where we go deep on so many mindset topics.

How to turn your knowledge into cash that pays you over and over

I want to share my passion for building digital courses with you and give you some tips on how to get started or even just get curious.

Digital courses are great because you can use your knowledge (even if you know 20% more than the average person on a topic) and there will be people who will pay you to help them get to the next few steps.

The cool thing is that once you create the content, you can sell them over and over again and create passive income. Plus they can be scaled into the millions!

I actually know a 2nd grade teacher that created a course that helped other 2nd grade teachers (yes you read that correctly, other 2nd grade teachers....not teachers of any grade) with student material) who has scaled her course into the high 6 figures.

Additionally digital courses can be created while you have a full time job, they don't require much overhead or storing products, it isn't a race to the bottom like competing with Amazon or Ebay (been there) and all the tools you need are...

Success to a lot of people means:

High paying job.

The career that parents wanted them to have.

A certain amount of money or net worth.

Nice car and house.

Title or status.

Beach body.

We have all been condition from when we were young, perhaps not always intentionally, but in some cases extremely targeted (advertising, media, social media and culture) on who to 'be'.

The other problem is all those things listed above are not permanent and can be taken away quickly.

We either feel like we are lacking if we aren’t there,

Or we get there and fear losing it,

Or we keep chasing after we get there.

Don’t get me wrong, those are fine things to aspire to if that is truly what you want at your core.

But start by asking what it is that you truly want aside from the influence of everything we've been told to want in life.

For me, it’s freedom, and having lots of money doesn’t...

Compassionate
Courageous
Humble
Disciplined
Loyal
Visionary
Influential
Confident
Consistent

The best post I've ever seen on LinkedIn

This post is from Lea Turner, an amazing coach who has created a highly successful coaching business on LinkedIn.

She wrote:

"today I sent the most empowering text of my life and it's costing me around £40k.

My son has never met his father. It wasn’t my choice for it to be that way, but it isn’t a decision I regret being made.

I hold no anger towards the situation, but today I sent a message severing him from any further financial responsibility.

Because he needs the money more than we do.

It felt really, really good.

(And it has only been possible because of LinkedIn and the incredible community here)"

I love this on so many levels, especially because Leah changed the conditions instead of adapting to them.

It's not easy to do, and sometimes it's not right, but I can't imagine the feeling she had sending this text message out.

We are all capable of changing our conditions instead of adapting to them.

We are...

How to start with meditation if you don't know where to start

The number one reason I meditate (and there are several more), is it helps me to run extremely efficiently.

I've shared my schedule in posts before and I can get an extraordinary amount of things done in a day and not feel rushed.

It gives me more clarity and focus.

Stress and anxiety is virtually non existent for me.

It helps me not think about 'all the things I have to do'.

Instead of worrying, I have the feeling of 'whatever needs to get done... will'.

I have abundance in how I perceive time, which is fascinating because a lot of people don't meditate because they don't want to give up time to do 'nothing'.

The time I invest in meditation actually creates more time by helping me be more efficient, and feel less rushed.

It also helps me to savor the smallest things by being more present.

There are more reasons but the last one I'll say is it extremely pleasant, I can literally feel Seratonin (love, gratitude chemical) drop into my body.

There is no question that meditation has grown...

The dangers of chronic busy-ness

I want to challenge you on how you view time (and time management).

There is a big difference between being productive and being ‘busy’.

Productivity is quantifiable.

Busy is just a feeling, and a feeling of lack.

Think about all the people that have vast sums of money but never feel like they have enough, or always worried that it will be taken away.

Time is the same way.

We live in an age of more convenience & tools for efficiency than ever, but are people are any less busy?

If you live in what I call a ‘chronic state of busy-ness’, you are worried about things that haven’t happened yet, therefore thinking about the future and not the now.

Time seems to go by so fast.

Kids grow up in a blink of an eye.

You knock off massive checklists, but it does not feel like you are going anywhere.

When someone asks, ‘how are you?’, you respond ‘busy’.

Most of my days contain the following:

Breathwork

Meditation

Workout

Exercise

Cold...

You'll never have to worry about your income if you do this:

When I started in sales back in 2013, I discovered a mindset that helped me to always have more than enough income and it has become a guiding principle for me ever since.

Sales often has a reputation for being:

Sleazy

Aggressive

Pushy

High pressure

Often in sales, reps put themselves first and do whatever it takes to make the deal happen and it often isn’t in the best interest of the client.

They call this ‘Commission breath’, and it stinks.

I started telling this to my clients:

“If I truly put you first, I’ll never have to worry about my paycheck”.

But I didn’t just say it, I did it.

I stopped worrying about my paycheck and just focused on truly putting my clients first.

And the money just rolled in.

Years later, I could tell my clients that this has always worked for me, if I put them first and I wouldn’t need to worry about my income.

Saying this to your clients is a major way to build trust (so long as its sincere).

Last night in...
