There's been a big problem brewing, decades in the making.
This photo is of me 28 years ago when I was a manager at the Salt Lake Country club.
I chose not to go to college because I hated school and couldn't imagine working to pay off loans to do something I hated.
I got my education (partially) from the many wealthy & innovative entrepreneurs that were members here.
I noticed something strange though: many of the bartenders and servers that I managed were college grads that were struggling to find a job in the field they had chosen and bartending or serving to pay off their loans.
Some of them were about to go to college and it felt like they were randomly picking a degree to go into.
I believe at one time it made sense to be intentional about what you want to do and go to college to get a degree in that field, then spend your life in that career.
Part of the problem is that at a young age, its so hard to tell WHAT you want...
If you are on my website reading this, I’d say its safe to assume that you, in some form or another, are doing what most people DON’T do and are chasing your passion or your dreams (or getting ready to).
Maybe you are starting a business.
Maybe you are starting a podcast.
Maybe you are building your brand and creating content.
You are BRAVE to do this. Most people fear what happens on the other side of the doors of opportunity, but the most dangerous place to be is staying in the same place.
It takes courage to find your voice, leaning into the fear of judgment.
Imposter syndrome, self-doubt, negative self-talk all come up.
But you lean into those voices and STILL move forward.
Once you are past that, there’s still danger ahead when it comes to your mindset and the voices that will come up.
Do you ever ask yourself this:
“Is it worth it”?
Today on the Mindset Hackers Podcast it's time to drop some major heat with one of the most impressive entrepreneurs that I know, Ammar Assad.
Ammar owns 2 rental car franchises and learned how to 'detach' from his businesses and hire the right managers to allow those to function independently, they started business coaching to help others do the same.
Ammar is a leader within a top sales and coaching organization who helps other coaches go from average to elite. He has also been a pivotal colleague in my own entrepreneurial journey and a great friend as well.
Before we started recording, I asked Ammar what was one topic that he was excited to jam about and he said 'Taking Action', which was EXACTLY what I was wanting to talk about.
As you know, I often talk about the formula for success being this equation "Knowledge + Action - Overthink = Massive Results".
When you dissect any journey, and you use this formula, you can find out where the breakdown is: you are lacking the skills...
I remember when I was a kid, my grandfather used to always tell me:
"You've got to work hard, you've got to go to school and get a degree, then you can succeed".
When I was younger I used to love school, but then around high school I started hating it, and by the time college came around, I knew that I didn't want to pay crazy amounts of money to do something that I hated.
Without me realizing it, it became a battle of 'going to school to succeed' or 'having an average life'.
I didn't want school, so I resigned myself to living an average life.
By sheer chance, I got the opportunity to scrape dishes as a bus boy at the Country Club and be around very successful people that made it look easy.
But for me, I still had years of ups and downs before it started to feel easy, because my belief system was that it needed to be hard.
The crazy thing is I was programmed that success NEEDs to be hard.
How many of us have been told through our entire life: 'you've got to work hard for success'?

Yesterday in my office my toddler was messing around and pulled out a notebook.
I picked it up, pages all crumbled because she was messing with it.
This was the page it was on, dated October 5th, 2021.
It was having a big moment of fear, doubt and insecurity and I decided to write it down so I would remember it.

Last year I had a successful second launch of my LinkedIn course in Feb which ended later March.
I didn't launch it again right away, and the months dragged on and I felt resistance to doing it again.
That resistance told me that I needed to because there were lessons I still needed to learn.
The third launch is usually the magic number, so I finally got around to it in October.
The first day I launched was absolutely crickets, no sales and this is where the self doubt came on so strong.
I remember wanting to just shrink back and quit this whole journey.
That was my ego talking and it was afraid of...
In this episode of Mindset Hackers I detail how I start the my day and create enough momentum to destroy any obstacle that comes in my path, and that would also include the limiting beliefs that (could) hold me back.
I'll share with you the 4 mantras/affirmations that I say to my self several hundreds of times during the year.
I say these over and over, as I take a cold shower every morning, because I am reprogramming my mind to be able to figure out anything. How to be more mentally tough. How to be more resourceful. How to keep going.
The book that I recommend in this episode is "Mindset" by Carol Dweck where she coined the term 'Growth Mindset' and 'Fixed Mindset'. This is an excellent read and one that I find more and more value in the traits of how highly successful people look at things like learning, failure, adaptability and ego.
Start using these 4 mantras and do them every day like I do and you'll start to program yourself with the traits of a growth mindset and be able to...
Did you know that the failure rate of New Years Goals is about 92%?
What is it about the 8% that actually do hit their big hairy and audacious goals?
In this episode of Mindset Hackers, my mindset twinner Hallie Avolio and I jump into why people fail at their goals and what to do to set your year off in the right way.
Hallie shares her 4 step process on setting intentions for the year.
We also dive into the concept of embodiment, the ‘feeling’ of what it is that you want to experience, and why it’s so important to use the feeling to precede the actual experience.
As Dr. Joe Dispenza says, the pathway to manifestation is to use intention to cast a line out into the quantum field and the elevated emotion is what reels it back in to create the actual experience.
This is YOUR year my friends, don’t let it be like every single other year where you set a goal, then forget about it after week number 3 or let it sit written down on a piece of paper and then stuffed...
Go to school. Work hard. Get a job and get paid 6 figures. Doctor, lawyer, architect. Work for 40-50 years and you are set.
Does that sound familiar?
Marcus Chan was washing dishes, sometimes for up to 15 hours on a Sunday and he knew there had to be more.
He rejected the societal constructs that said that to make money, you've got to work hard in one of those high paying jobs.
As he broke through the 100k barrier, then 150, then 200, he realized he could keep going.
After getting 10 raises in 10 years and bringing in millions of dollars for a large corporation, he decided it was time to move on and become a sales coach for the top B2B and Sales professionals and leaders.
Join me and Marcus and we dissect the mindset and mindset tools & practices of an 8 figure entrepreneur.
How do leaders teach their employees to cultivate a powerful mindset?
Are top sales organizations teaching mindset as part of their onboarding and training?
What mindset practices does Marcus do for...
In this episode of Mindset Hackers, my mindset twin Hallie Avolio and I deep dive into how to let go of caring what others think about you. We talk about our back stories in coming into the versions of us that aren't restrained by the fear of judgement of others.
Some of the topics we talk about in this episode are imposters syndrome, perfectionism (fear of putting it out there), dimming our light for others, overcompensating, fear of rejection, needing external validation.
Hallie and I both have our backstories and our struggles, and we share our mindset tools that we use to free ourselves from the chains that once held us back, and now give us an absolute sense of confidence and freedom.
When you stop worrying about what others think of you, you give yourself massive amounts of energy that will help propel you to new levels of the enjoyment of life.
Your mind is the most energy consuming organ in your body and to obsess, stress or worry about what others think of us, we are just...
