How to get paid like a professional

Am I right about this?

If you treat it like a hobby, you’ll get paid like it's a hobby.
If you treat it like a job, you’ll be paid like it’s a job.
If you treat it like a career, you’ll get paid like its a career.
If you treat it like a professional, you’ll get paid like a professional.

It just guts me to see people give up so much to chase the dream of being a coach, course creator or consultant but give up after 3-6 months of work and figure ‘it’s not for me’.

Part of that is because marketers are always setting people up for failure buy promising HUGE results in just a few months and then crushing people with self doubt when that doesn’t happen.

But as much as I like to throw rocks at the High Ticket Gurus, we have to take ownership too.

Are we treating what we do as a hobby, job, career or a professional?

Hobby: If you give up after 3 to 6 months, or post on social media here and there, take one coaching course and declare that you are a coach, well maybe…. but this is your hobby and you’ll get paid like it’s a hobby (little to nothing).

Job: Some people treat it like a job, they quit their old job and trade it in for 8 hours of ‘doing’ things that coaches or entrepreneurs do. They trade time for money and have big lists of ‘have to do’s’.

There will be some success because of the sheer amount of work they do but often it feels like trying to run through a swamp. Part of the frustration comes from getting hung up on how much money they are making vs the time expenditure. They have a hard time ‘investing’ in growth because they feel like they are ‘spending’ money (and believe me I’ve been here before).

Career: You are in the top 90% when you treat this as a career. You invest in yourself and your business, you treat it like a career, you take pride in what you do, you show up on a high level and you make more money than most people in the field. You embody what you do, you are ‘being’ and not just ‘doing’.

Professional: These are the top 1% and they focus on mastery! When I think about a true professional, I think about sports. Athletes like Kobe or Lance Armstrong were insanely obsessed with even the smallest details. For a professional, you LOVE the game and will do whatever it takes. You’ll get up when you get knocked down, in fact you MUST get up.

Whatever market or niche you are in, can you see people who treat it like a hobby, job, career and profession and does their income more or less correlate with it?

It’s ok to treat it as a hobby if that is what you want!

But if you are frustrated with where you are at and want to make more impact and income, think about where you want to be and get real with the level of activity, learning, investing and characteristics that come along with it.

Then just do it.

I promise if you start treating this like either a career or acting like a pro, it will be hard for you to avoid running into more income and more opportunity!

Knowledge + action - overthink = results.
