Ever heard of the LinkedIn Social Selling Index?

That’s ok if you haven’t is a rarely discussed feature but a great way to measure how well you are utilizing LinkedIn for growing your brand and your business.

Your LinkedIn Social Selling Index (SSI) measures how effective you are at establishing your professional brand, finding the right people, engaging with insights, and building relationships. Your score is updated frequently giving you opportunities to improve!

Above is a screen shot of my SSI, my number is 81 out of 100.

If you have a score of 60-70 then you get an additional boost in reach by the algorithm in your content, pretty cool right? Kind of like a video game bonus!

Here’s what’s shocking: I vastly outperform my peers in the coaching world and this puts me in the top 1% of effectively using LinkedIn.

The average professional in the coaching world is showing a score of 38!

Here are the 4 criteria that goes into the SSI number:

Establish your professional brand - Complete your profile with the customer in mind. Become a thought-leader by publishing meaningful posts.

Find the right people - Identify better prospects in less time using efficient search and research tools.

Engage with insights - Discover and share conversation-worthy updates to create and grow relationships.

Build relationships - Strengthen your network by finding and establishing trust with decision makers.

Here is why my SSI is in the top 1% of professionals in the ‘coaching and professional training’ realm:

Because I know my niche inside and out.

My content serves this audience.

The people I engage with are narrow and not wide.

I build relationships with my niche and take them into the DM’s then doing business with them.

Now I did not start shifting my strategy to get a high SSI score, rather the SSI score is high because I have nailed my niche.

A few things you can do to increase your SSI Score:

  •  Be intentional about curating your network. Don’t randomly connect, know who you want to connect with and discard useless connection requests.
  •  Create quality content for that specific audience that adds value and causes them to engage.
  •  Make sure your Profile Page is complete and shaped to engage the same audience you are targeting. Don’t use your title as a headline or your resume as your about section. Write it with those in mind.
  •  Seek out and engage with people in your audience, do some true networking, have conversations in the DM’s, don’t be like the guy at a networking event standing on a podium and passing out business cards that never get read. LinkedIn is meant to be a networking platform, not a pedestal for influencers.

Last week I rolled out my masterclass Nail Your Niche and I wanted to thank all the people who purchased this, but also let you know more about what’s inside and why it’s important.

In Lesson 1, I go deeper into what a niche actually is. Unfortunately, a lot of people think that things like ‘mindset coaching’, ‘business coaching’, ‘life coaching’ is a niche.

A niche is a specialization of a market. It could be a specific type of client, or something very specific that you do (like an gastroenterologist) that serves a broad audience.

We also go into the 3 most profitable markets and how to find a submarket then a niche (and even a sub niche).

In lesson 2, we dive into the power of having a simple and clear elevator pitch. This is how you tell your client who you help, how you help them in 10 seconds or less. This is like an advertisement that goes with you everywhere on LinkedIn and also you can use in so many other areas of your marketing.

Lesson 3: we build a dream client profile and help you get out of your own shoes and into the perspective of your client. When you do this, you can crush it on content that speaks to them!

Lesson 4: I break down how to validate or even sell your offers BEFORE you create them. If you aren’t selling your offers, its easy to diagnose by testing your audience first before spending all kinds of time and money building stuff that leads to no sales.
